The answer your engineers will sign off on.

SymbioFlows is a simulation engine for industrial residue reuse. Give it a material analysis and a receiving process, and it tells you whether the substitution works and what pre-treatment, logistics and compliance path it needs. When the evidence isn't there, it says so instead of guessing.

Bring a material analysis for a traceable decision on the route, its constraints and the next evidence required. No analysis yet? Start with a check of the stream.

What the engine refused, and why

Five public reference materials, each proposed as a substitute for ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) in concrete. The published source for each one rules it out. The engine declines all five rather than guess.

  • Coal fly ash, Class F

Not approved as a GGBS substitute

    Why: A coal-combustion residue, not a blast-furnace slag.

Source: FHWA, User Guidelines for Waste and Byproduct Materials in Pavement Construction, Table 1-3

  • Coal fly ash, Class C

Not approved as a GGBS substitute

    Why: A coal-combustion residue, not a blast-furnace slag.

Source: FHWA, User Guidelines for Waste and Byproduct Materials in Pavement Construction, Table 1-3

  • Coal fly ash, NIST SRM 1633c

Not approved as a GGBS substitute

Why: Certified as a bituminous coal fly ash, not a blast-furnace slag.

Source: NIST SRM 1633c, Certificate of Analysis

  • Nickel slag

Not approved as a GGBS substitute

    Why: A non-ferrous smelting slag, not a blast-furnace slag.

    Source: FHWA-RD-97-148, Table 11-2

  • Spent foundry sand

Not approved as a GGBS substitute

Why: A used foundry moulding sand, not a slag.

    Source: FHWA-RD-97-148, Table 7-2

A route without evidence is refused, and a blocked route stays blocked.

How the engine decides

Built on Structure, Not Guesswork

A plausible outlet is not a pilot decision. SymbioFlows starts with a defined material and route, tests the evidence that matters, and records what is supported, excluded, or unresolved.

Chemistry-Aware Route Screening

The material profile is tested against route-specific constraints. An unsupported route is surfaced as a constraint, not presented as a lead.

Classification Context

Classification and transport context are recorded with the material evidence so the next technical review starts from the same facts.

Evidence Before Commercial Terms

Commercial terms follow material and receiver qualification; they are not inferred from generic benchmarks.

Output: Route dossier with supported findings, exclusions, unresolved constraints, and the next validation step

Built for EU waste regulation

Every route is classified under the European List of Waste (LoW/EWC) and screened against the Waste Framework Directive (2008/98/EC) and Waste Shipment Regulation before it reaches your dossier.
