Yes. Under the EU Waste Framework Directive, food waste must be separately collected. Organic waste (02 03 04) is non-hazardous and welcomed by AD operators. Gate fees are often zero or negative (you receive a tipping fee) for high-quality streams.

What is DAF sludge and can it be valorized?

Dissolved air flotation (DAF) sludge (02 02 03) is the fat-rich sludge from food effluent pre-treatment. At 3–8% dry solids it is a good AD co-substrate with biogas yields of 300–500 m³/t VS.

Is spent brewery grain animal feed or waste?
