Can mixed fibre waste be recycled?

Mechanical recycling of mixed fibre waste (04 02 09) is possible when sorted by fibre type. Cotton-dominant blends go to industrial rags or paper; synthetic blends to insulation. Chemical recycling of polyester blends is emerging commercially.

How is dye sludge classified?

Dye sludge is hazardous (04 02 20) when it contains heavy metals (Cr, Cu, Zn) from metal-complex dyes. AATCC colour assessment and XRF metal analysis determine classification. Co-processing in cement kilns is the most common licensed route.
